The anime staff announced that Season 4 will air on television in 2027, while the new film is planned for Japanese cinemas that year. The projects bring the Forger family back to both formats after three television seasons and a first movie that attracted more than 14 million admissions worldwide.
Character designer Satoshi Kadowaki also created a new teaser illustration for Season 4. It brings together Loid, Anya, Yor and their dog Bond against a city backdrop, with newspapers and flyers carrying details connected to the coming story.
Exact premiere dates, episode numbers, story details and international release arrangements for the two projects have not been announced. The next promised update concerns their stories, although no date was given for that announcement.
A family built around a secret mission
Tatsuya Endō's story follows a spy known as Twilight, who takes the identity of psychiatrist Loid Forger for an assignment called Operation Strix. His task is to investigate Donovan Desmond, a political leader whose activities threaten peace between the fictional countries of Westalis and Ostania.
Loid needs a family because his route to Desmond runs through the elite school attended by Desmond's son. The assignment requires him to form that family within a week and gain access to a school gathering. An apparently ordinary household becomes part of an intelligence operation.
Anya, the child he adopts, can read minds. Yor, the woman he marries, secretly works as an assassin. Loid begins the arrangement unaware of their abilities and hidden lives, while his own identity as a spy remains a secret.
The comedy comes from these overlapping secrets. Anya can understand thoughts that the adults intend to keep private, while Loid must manage family responsibilities alongside a mission involving the peace of two countries. The same household can support school comedy, domestic mishaps and dangerous action without changing its central cast.
The teaser puts story clues in plain sight
Kadowaki's Season 4 illustration places all four members of the Forger household together in a city setting. Its most specific hints appear in the newspapers and flyers scattered around them, which contain elements related to episodes planned for the new season.
The artwork gives viewers something concrete to examine while they wait for the story announcement. The family remains at the centre of the image, but the paper surrounding them connects that familiar group to developments beyond their home.
Kadowaki is also named among the television production's character designers, alongside Kazuaki Shimada. His involvement ties the new promotional image to the team responsible for translating Endō's characters into animation.
Who is making and voicing the television anime?
The production information accompanying the announcement lists Yasuhiro Akamatsu as director and Hiroki Shinagawa as deputy director. WIT STUDIO and CloverWorks are named as the animation studios, with Aya Takaha responsible for series composition and Yoko Yonaiyama assisting in that role.
Series composition involves planning how a story unfolds across episodes. That work matters for an adaptation mixing a continuing spy assignment with shorter family and school stories: each episode needs its own shape while keeping the larger narrative moving.
The Japanese voice cast lists Takuya Eguchi as Loid, Atsumi Tanezaki as Anya, Saori Hayami as Yor and Kenichiro Matsuda as Bond. Supporting performers include Kensho Ono as Yuri Briar, Natsumi Fujiwara as Damian Desmond, Emiri Kato as Becky Blackbell and Ayane Sakura as Fiona Frost.
Those characters connect the Forger household to the school, family relationships and intelligence work that surround Operation Strix. The production information places the familiar ensemble alongside the newly announced television project.
How the series reached its fourth season
The television adaptation began in April 2022, three years after the manga started publication. Its first season aired in two separate blocks, sometimes called cours. A cour is a broadcast period of roughly three months, so those two blocks belonged to the same season rather than two different seasons.
Season 2 followed in October 2023 with 12 episodes. Season 3 began in October 2025 and ran for 13 episodes, one more than its immediate predecessor. The 2027 announcement continues a television run that has developed across several years rather than through an uninterrupted annual schedule.
- March 2019: Endō's manga began serialization on Shueisha's Shonen Jump+ platform.
- April to June 2022: The first half of television Season 1 aired.
- October to December 2022: The second half of Season 1 aired.
- October to December 2023: Season 2 aired for 12 episodes.
- December 22, 2023: SPY×FAMILY CODE: White opened in Japan.
- April 2024: The first film reached North American cinemas.
- October to December 2025: Season 3 aired for 13 episodes.
- November 8, 2026: Season 4 and the second film were announced in Tokyo.
- 2027: Season 4 is scheduled for television, alongside the second film's Japanese theatrical release.
The release plan puts the television series and a film in the same calendar year again. In 2023, audiences received Season 2 and CODE: White, giving the franchise an earlier example of moving between weekly television and a cinema release.
The first film drew millions to cinemas
SPY×FAMILY CODE: White opened in 383 Japanese cinemas on December 22, 2023, and topped the domestic box office during its opening weekend. Its Japanese box office revenue later exceeded ¥6.32 billion.
The film recorded more than 4.6 million admissions in Japan and more than 14 million worldwide. Admissions count cinema visits, so repeat visits by the same person can contribute more than once to the total.
The worldwide figure is roughly three times the Japanese figure when comparing the stated thresholds of 14 million and 4.6 million. That gives a useful sense of the movie's reach beyond its home market, although both published totals are expressed as amounts exceeded rather than exact final counts.
CODE: White used an original story involving a crisis around microfilm accidentally swallowed by Anya. Microfilm stores tiny photographic copies of information, making it a compact object around which a spy adventure can turn. Crunchyroll brought the film to North American cinemas in April 2024, several months after its Japanese debut.
The second feature follows that substantial theatrical audience. Its announcement gives the franchise another cinema release to accompany the television series, while leaving the next film's particular adventure for a later reveal.
The manga audience behind the expansion
Endō launched SPY×FAMILY on Shonen Jump+ in March 2019. The manga has since surpassed 42 million copies in circulation across its first 18 collected volumes, while its cumulative online page views have exceeded 600 million.
Those figures describe two different parts of its reach. Copies in circulation measure the scale of the manga's distribution. Page views count visits to its online content, where the same reader may return for many chapters or revisit earlier ones.
The manga also has established routes to readers outside Japan. Shueisha publishes it in English through MANGA Plus, while Viz Media carries it through its Shonen Jump subscription service and publishes collected print editions. Viz added the series to its subscription app in September 2019, within its first year of serialization.
The television and film announcements therefore arrive alongside a continuing manga with a large existing readership. Viewers can follow the anime releases, while readers have an ongoing version of the story through digital publication and collected books.
The Forger family also has a stage audience
SPY×FAMILY has expanded beyond manga, television and film into musical theatre. Its first stage musical ran from March to May 2023, the same year that Season 2 and CODE: White reached audiences.
A second musical ran from September to December 2025, adapting the Doggy Bomb and Luxury Cruise Ship arcs from the manga. Its itinerary included Tokyo Tatemono Brillia Hall from September 22 to October 29, followed by performances in Fukuoka, Hyogo, Nagoya and Yamagata.
The Nagoya production of the first musical was also streamed outside Japan with English subtitles on July 6. That gave an international audience another way to encounter the characters, this time through live performers rather than drawings or animation.
The 2027 projects continue this expansion, but their immediate promise is straightforward: another television season and another cinema adventure for the Forger family. The strongest clues released so far belong to Season 4's illustrated newspapers and flyers, while the next major story announcement is still to come.
