November reminders target missing recovery settings
LINE is reminding users in Taiwan to check four parts of their account setup: a working phone number, an accessible email address, a password, and a connection to at least one Apple or Google account. The company warns that incomplete settings can make it harder to recover an account after a phone is lost, the app is accidentally deleted or fraudsters take control.

Its November 4, 2026, update sets out two rounds of notifications. The first targets users missing a phone number, email address or password. The second, scheduled for November 9 to 12, targets users who have not connected either an Apple or a Google account.
The consequences can extend beyond losing the ability to sign in. LINE says users who cannot recover their original account may also lose their friends list and chat history, which cannot simply be imported into a new account. Even an existing backup may leave some conversations unrestored in certain circumstances.
LINE's account check guidance, originally published on November 19, 2025, and subsequently updated, explains how to complete the settings inside the mobile app. Users should open Home, select the gear icon for Settings, then choose My Account.
Who will receive the messages?
LINE conducts the account check campaign every quarter. Notifications come from its verified official account named Service Messages, identified by a green shield. The company uses that account to deliver important information and says users cannot block it.
Users who have already completed the relevant settings will not receive the corresponding reminder. Someone who has registered a phone number, email address and password, for example, may still need to connect an Apple or Google account to complete the recommended setup.
The November notification schedule focuses on different gaps at different times. Checking the settings directly gives users a way to see what needs attention without relying on the wording of a message alone.
- November 19, 2025: LINE published its account check guidance.
- November 4, 2026: The updated guidance schedules notifications for users missing a phone number, email address or password.
- November 9 to 12, 2026: Notifications are scheduled for users without a connection to at least one Apple or Google account.
LINE has not given a deadline for completing the settings. The dates describe when reminders are sent, while the recommended action is to check the account and fill any gaps promptly.
What users need to check inside LINE
The My Account screen brings together the settings covered by the campaign. LINE recommends completing all three basic entries, then connecting Apple, Google or both. Connecting only one of those services meets the final part of its recommendation.
- Phone number: Register an active number that can receive verification codes by text message.
- Email address: Use an inbox that the account holder can still open and receive messages in.
- Password: Make sure a password has been set for the LINE account.
- Apple or Google account: Connect at least one, or both, through the account settings.
Connecting an Apple or Google account associates that existing account with the LINE account. LINE includes this connection among the settings that can help users regain access when something goes wrong.
After a successful connection, LINE says the screen displays an option to cancel synchronization. That wording means the connection is already active. Users checking their settings should look for that status rather than canceling a completed connection.
A saved number or email must still work
A phone number is useful for this process only if it can receive the required verification code. LINE specifically warns about prepaid numbers that have gone unpaid for a long period: the telecommunications company may take the number back.
A number left in an account after the user has stopped using it can therefore become a practical problem. The account check involves confirming that the registered number still belongs to the user and remains usable, as well as checking that a number appears on the screen.
An email address needs the same attention. LINE tells users to register an address they can still sign into and receive mail through, because access to that inbox matters if they forget their password.
For someone who has changed phone providers or stopped using an old email service, the task is to review the actual contact details. Completing the fields with information that is no longer accessible leaves a gap in the recovery arrangements LINE is asking users to maintain.
Account recovery and chat backups serve different needs
LINE identifies three situations in which complete settings can help users sign back into their original account: losing a phone, accidentally deleting the LINE app, or having the account taken over by fraudsters. Each can leave a person without their usual access to conversations and contacts.
The original account matters because it holds the user's connections and history. Creating another account can provide a fresh place to use LINE, but the company says the friends list and chat records from an unrecoverable account cannot be imported into that replacement.
A chat backup addresses the separate task of restoring saved conversations. LINE warns that, in some circumstances, even users who made a backup may be unable to restore their full chat history. Its guidance therefore asks users to prepare their account recovery settings rather than rely entirely on a saved copy of messages.
For people who use LINE for family conversations, work groups or important photographs, losing access can mean rebuilding contact lists as well as losing records they expected to keep. The company describes complete account settings as a way to help regain access; it gives no promise that every message will be recoverable in every case.
Keep the account check inside the app
LINE says users can complete the account connection process in the app on their own phone. No external website is required for verification. Opening LINE independently and going to Home, Settings and My Account provides a direct route to the relevant controls.
The company also says it will not proactively ask users to enter personal information on other websites or send an unsolicited verification email. A message demanding information through an outside page is therefore at odds with the process LINE describes.
Email registration has one specific step that users should expect: when they set an email address in LINE, the system sends a verification email to that inbox so they can finish the setup. The user's own action inside the app starts that process.
LINE advises recipients to check that a reminder comes from the verified official account. The name Service Messages and its green shield are the identifiers described in the guidance. Users can then inspect their settings directly in the app.
Do not reuse details across different LINE accounts
LINE places a limit on account connections: each phone number, email address, Apple account or Google account can be connected to only one LINE account. Users need to keep this in mind if they operate more than one account or are considering creating a replacement.
The company warns that connecting the same details to another LINE account can overwrite the earlier association and leave the original account unusable. It gives the example of trying to connect one phone number to two LINE accounts.
Before making changes, users should check which LINE account they are signed into and which contact details belong to it. Completing the recommended setup means preserving usable ways back into the intended account, without moving those same details to another one by mistake.
Key Points
- LINE recommends a working phone number, accessible email address, password and connection to at least one Apple or Google account.
- November 2026 reminders target missing basic settings on November 4 and missing Apple or Google connections on November 9 to 12.
- Settings can be checked through Home, Settings and My Account in the mobile app.
- The verified Service Messages account carries a green shield and cannot be blocked.
- Account connections require no external verification website. Email verification follows an email address setup initiated by the user.
- Each phone number, email address, Apple account or Google account can be connected to only one LINE account.
- Losing an unrecoverable account can also mean losing contacts and conversations, and backups may not restore every chat.
