October Payout Brings Three Rewards Together
More than 700 Micron production workers in Taiwan received total compensation for fiscal 2026 equivalent to at least 60 months of salary, the company said, as annual bonuses and a NT$1 million appreciation payment arrived with October wages on October 30, 2026.

The workers were among more than 4,300 production employees who worked throughout the fiscal year. Their annual compensation combined regular salary with several rewards, bringing the total for that group to the equivalent of five years of ordinary monthly pay.
Micron paid three rewards together: its annual incentive bonus, known as IPP; the Maxout production bonus, worth 20% of annual salary; and the appreciation bonus announced on September 11. Employees eligible for the full appreciation payment could receive more than NT$1 million in combined rewards in this payroll.
The payout comes alongside a change in how the memory chip maker shares its earnings. Starting in fiscal 2027, Micron plans to add quarterly profit bonuses for employees worldwide while retaining its existing annual incentive program. The first quarterly payment is scheduled for January 2027.
Large payments have arrived while negotiations continue at the Taoyuan plant. Its union wants a transparent, verifiable system for sharing profits and has rejected an earlier company proposal. A third negotiating session is scheduled for November 6, following unsuccessful talks on October 27.
For employees, two developments are unfolding together: rewards for the completed fiscal year are reaching their accounts, while the company and workers are still working through how future earnings should be shared. The new quarterly bonus belongs to fiscal 2027 and will be paid separately from the October rewards.
How the Annual Rewards Work
Micron estimates that most employees will receive a fiscal 2026 IPP bonus equivalent to about 7.5 to 12.5 months of salary. Individual performance ratings determine the award, so employees doing different jobs or receiving different assessments can receive different amounts.
The Maxout production bonus uses another measure: 20% of annual salary. For a simple illustration, if annual salary consists of 12 equal monthly payments, 20% would equal 2.4 months of that salary. An employee's actual award depends on the salary basis used by the company.
The appreciation payment adds a fixed amount of NT$1 million for employees who meet the full eligibility requirements. Micron announced that payment on September 11 and included it in the October 30 payroll alongside the other rewards.
Employees who qualify but have less than a full year of service receive an appreciation payment adjusted to their service period. This means a recent recruit can receive a smaller amount than an eligible colleague who served for the entire year.
Micron said final payments vary with role, performance rating and eligibility. Those differences explain why the company described both a typical range for the annual incentive and a smaller group whose combined annual compensation reached the 60 month threshold.
What 60 Months of Salary Means
The 60 month figure measures total compensation across the fiscal year. Regular wages earned during that year form part of the total, alongside the annual incentive, production reward and appreciation payment.
Sixty monthly salary payments equal five periods of 12 months. The comparison helps show the scale of the reward relative to an employee's ordinary pay, while the October payroll represents the moment when the additional fiscal 2026 rewards were paid.
Micron identified more than 700 employees reaching that level within the group of more than 4,300 production workers employed throughout fiscal 2026. It did not publish their individual salaries or a detailed breakdown of how each person's compensation reached the threshold.
Record Business Results Meet Demands for a Larger Share
Micron described fiscal 2026 as a record year for its business and credited employees for the results. The company presented the rewards as recognition of their work and a way for staff to share in the gains they helped create.
Demand for memory chips used in artificial intelligence data centers has helped drive the company's earnings higher. These facilities run powerful computers that need memory to hold and move the information used by AI systems.
Taiwan is central to Micron's production network, making an estimated 50% to 60% of its chips. Negotiations have involved unions representing about 12,000 of the company's 15,000 workers in Taiwan, or approximately four out of every five employees.
Workers have sought a larger and more predictable share of the business gains. Both the Taoyuan and Taichung unions had sought a single bonus equal to 83 months of salary and a continuing arrangement allocating 15% of operating profit to quarterly employee bonuses.
Operating profit is the money a business earns from its operations after operating expenses. A bonus tied to a defined share of that figure would give employees a calculation linked directly to business performance. The percentage, calculation rules and payment schedule therefore matter as much as the size of an individual award.
Taoyuan Workers Continue Negotiations
The Taichung union has reached an agreement with Micron and signed a labor agreement. Taoyuan's union remains in negotiations, with a dispute over the basis used to calculate profit sharing.
About 70% of the Taoyuan union's more than 2,300 members voted to reject a company proposal presented during the earlier round of discussions. Workers also held a small strike as the union pressed for changes.
The Taoyuan union, explaining its rejection of the earlier negotiations, said the company had not addressed its demands during the October 21 meeting:
During negotiations with Micron on Oct. 21, the company failed to respond to any of the union's demands,
The union warned that further collective action could follow as it sought a fairer profit sharing system. A meeting postponed because of a typhoon was rescheduled for October 27. That second negotiating session ended without agreement because the sides understood the profit sharing calculation basis differently.
The Taoyuan plant accounts for about 22% of Micron's DRAM production capacity. DRAM is a type of memory that computers use to hold information while programs are running. The plant's production role gives the continuing negotiations importance beyond the employees directly involved.
A New Quarterly Bonus Alongside the Annual Award
Micron's fiscal 2027 Quarterly Profit Bonus will apply to employees worldwide and operate alongside the annual IPP. The company says the new schedule will connect employee rewards more closely to profits earned in each quarter.
A quarter is a three month reporting period. Paying a profit bonus every quarter gives workers a more frequent connection to company results than a reward paid once a year.
Micron Taiwan chairman Lu Donghui said the quarterly system would accompany the existing annual bonus. He also said employees in Taiwan would receive increased pension contributions and shift allowances, among other measures.
Pension contributions add to money set aside for retirement, while shift allowances provide extra pay associated with working particular schedules. Together with bonuses, those changes affect different parts of an employee's compensation, from current income to retirement savings.
The requested 83 month union award concerned a single bonus, while the company's 60 month figure combines a full year's wages and rewards for qualifying production employees. The continuing negotiations focus on the terms workers want for future profit sharing as well as the rewards already announced.
January Starts With Cash, Then Shares Join the Payments
The first quarterly bonus is scheduled for January 2027 and will be paid entirely in cash. Later quarterly awards are planned to consist of equal portions of cash and company stock.
Cash gives employees money they can spend or save immediately. Stock gives them ownership in the company, with a value that moves as its share price changes. The planned split therefore changes both the timing and the form of future rewards.
Micron plans to let employees view an estimate of their current quarterly profit bonus in its internal Workday system before mid November. That gives workers an earlier view of the expected award ahead of the January payment.
The company has not publicly detailed the quarterly formula or the size of the profit pool in these announcements. Those terms remain central to understanding how the new global program will operate alongside the arrangement sought by the Taoyuan union.
The Dates Workers Are Watching
September's appreciation bonus announcement, October's payments and the forthcoming talks mark separate stages in the compensation changes. The next immediate event is the November 6 negotiating session in Taoyuan.
- September 11, 2026: Micron announced the NT$1 million appreciation bonus for employees meeting the full eligibility requirements.
- October 21: Micron and the Taoyuan union held negotiations that the union said failed to address its demands.
- October 27: A second negotiating session ended without agreement over the basis for calculating profit sharing.
- October 30: Fiscal 2026 annual incentives, Maxout production bonuses and appreciation payments arrived with October salaries.
- November 6: Micron and the Taoyuan union are scheduled to hold their third negotiating session.
- Before mid November: Employees are expected to gain access to quarterly bonus estimates through Workday.
- January 2027: The first fiscal 2027 quarterly profit bonus is scheduled for payment entirely in cash.
Employees will therefore get an estimate of the new quarterly reward before receiving it. Negotiators, meanwhile, will return to discussions before that planned Workday access deadline.
