EssilorLuxottica and Meta are introducing four product ranges for different needs: Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 for everyday use, Ray-Ban Meta Optics Gen 2 for prescription wearers, and Oakley Meta HSTN and Vanguard for outdoor activities and exercise. Buyers will be able to choose between familiar sunglasses designs and frames intended for regular prescription use.
The glasses answer through speakers rather than a screen. A wearer can ask about an object in front of them, take a photograph, hear a message or translate a conversation without holding a phone in their hand. A connected smartphone and companion app remain part of the system.
Thailand is part of a wider expansion announced in the companies' September 24 announcement. EssilorLuxottica named Thailand among 10 markets scheduled to receive its AI glasses portfolio in the coming months, alongside Indonesia, Malaysia, the Philippines, Hong Kong, New Zealand, Poland, Portugal, Israel and South Africa.
Prae Dumrongmongcolgul, country director of Facebook Thailand at Meta, described the ambition behind the local introduction:
We're building personal superintelligence for everyone, and we're excited to bring that closer to people in Thailand.
For Thai buyers, the immediate choices are more practical: which frame fits, which lenses are needed, how much camera and sports functionality matters, and which services will be available locally.
How the glasses work without a display
Ray-Ban Meta and the Oakley models announced for Thailand use microphones to receive spoken requests and speakers built into the frames to deliver answers. Their open ear design leaves the ear canal uncovered, allowing the wearer to hear audio without inserting earbuds.
The camera serves two purposes. It records photographs and video from the wearer's viewpoint, and it provides images for visual AI, which lets a user ask questions about objects or places in front of them. Spoken replies replace the information that would otherwise appear on a phone screen.
Music, podcasts, calls, reading and sending messages, reminders and spoken GPS directions are also part of the feature set described for the launch. Translation works through a connected phone, helping users follow conversations without repeatedly lifting a handset.
The companion smartphone app is required for setup and for storing camera files. The experience therefore shifts some everyday actions from the phone to the glasses while retaining the phone as an essential connection and management tool.
When will Thai voice interaction arrive?
Meta's Thailand launch announcement says Meta AI will be available in Thai, and local launch information describes Thai support from the start of sales. Earlier product information placed Thai voice interaction in the near future. No separate activation date or detailed list of supported Thai voice functions has been given.
Thai support matters because these glasses rely heavily on conversation. Asking a question, dictating a message and understanding a spoken answer become more accessible when the wearer can use their own language.
Suphachai Achivarangrap, Thailand country manager for EssilorLuxottica Thailand, described the local range as serving different needs through sunglasses and prescription eyewear, from taking photographs and video without using the hands to following sports performance during exercise.
The rollout spans several announced milestones:
- September 24, 2026: EssilorLuxottica and Meta announced new products and international expansion at Meta Connect.
- October 20, 2026: Ray-Ban Meta and Oakley Meta are scheduled to go on sale nationwide in Thailand.
- By the end of 2026: The companies plan to offer more than 100 AI eyewear options across their wider portfolio.
Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 adds more choice and longer battery life
Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 starts at 16,690 baht in Thailand and comes in Wayfarer, Aviator and Zena designs. The global collection has 27 combinations of colors and lenses, with Wayfarer offered in standard and large sizes. Zena introduces a cat eye shape, while the Aviator joins the range in the design's 90th anniversary year.
Meta's product announcement specifies a camera with 12 million pixels and 3K Ultra HD video recording. Megapixels describe the amount of image detail a camera can capture, while 3K describes the resolution of the recorded video.
Gen 3 has six microphones, open ear speakers and a customizable Action Button for quick access to Meta AI. Meta says the microphone array reduces background noise by more than 90%, a company claim aimed at improving calls and voice commands on busy or windy streets.
Battery life is rated at up to nine hours, compared with eight hours for Gen 2. That is an additional hour, or a 12.5% increase in the stated maximum. The phrase "up to" matters for planning: the advertised figure is a maximum rather than a promise that every combination of recording, calls and AI use will last that long.
Adjustable temple tips are intended to improve fit and comfort. For a device that sits on the face while carrying a camera, battery and audio equipment, fit is part of everyday usability as much as appearance.
Prescription wearers get a dedicated Optics range
Ray-Ban Meta Optics Gen 2 starts at 17,490 baht, with Blayzer Optics and Scriber Optics frames. The range gives buyers who already need vision correction a route into the same broader category of voice, camera and AI functions.
Lens choices include clear lenses, sunglasses lenses, Transitions lenses, polarized lenses, lenses that filter blue light and prescription options. Transitions lenses change tint with lighting conditions, while polarized lenses reduce reflected glare.
The Optics starting price is 800 baht above Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3. Buyers choosing between the two ranges will therefore need to weigh the frame and lens configuration they need alongside the electronics, rather than treating every pair as the same product in a different shape.
Oakley offers two different approaches to sport
Oakley Meta HSTN is the lowest priced model in the Thai launch at 16,290 baht. It combines 3K Ultra HD capture with open ear speakers and IPX4 water resistance. IPX4 means protection against splashing water; the rating is useful for understanding the kind of exposure the frame is designed to handle.
HSTN includes options with Oakley PRIZM lenses, designed to improve contrast and make visual details easier to distinguish. A black Gen 2 version with Amethyst Transitions lenses is among the configurations described for the local introduction.
Oakley Meta Vanguard costs 20,390 baht and targets running, cycling and other activities involving speed and movement. Its camera has 12 million pixels and a field of view measuring 122 degrees, allowing it to capture a broad scene from the wearer's perspective.
Vanguard also includes wind noise reduction and an IP67 rating. In this rating, the 6 indicates protection against dust entering the device, while the 7 indicates resistance to temporary immersion under specified test conditions. That gives Vanguard a higher stated level of environmental protection than HSTN.
The Three-Point Fit system includes three interchangeable nose pad sizes for different nose bridge heights. The frame is also designed to work with cycling helmets, making physical fit an important difference for riders comparing sports glasses with everyday frames.
Vanguard supports connections with Strava and Garmin, and Oakley Meta glasses can work with smartwatches for exercise functions. The workout information and controls available depend on the functions and connections supported by each system. Buyers using a particular watch or fitness service will need to check that combination.
What the Thai prices and retail network look like
The four announced starting prices place the range within a spread of 4,100 baht. Vanguard costs about 25% more than HSTN, calculated from their respective prices of 20,390 and 16,290 baht. Its broader camera view, stronger water and dust rating, sports fit and fitness connections are central differences.
- Oakley Meta HSTN: from 16,290 baht.
- Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3: from 16,690 baht.
- Ray-Ban Meta Optics Gen 2: from 17,490 baht.
- Oakley Meta Vanguard: from 20,390 baht.
Sales will run through Ray-Ban and Sunglass Hut retailers, Oakley stores and authorized dealers nationwide. Named Oakley locations include CentralWorld on the third floor in the Eden zone, room E307; ICONSIAM on the second floor; and Siam Paragon on the second floor.
The optical retail network gives shoppers a place to assess frame size, nose fit and lens needs before buying. Those considerations are especially relevant for prescription wearers and cyclists who expect to use the glasses for extended periods.
The global expansion includes products beyond Thailand's launch
Meta and EssilorLuxottica say their wider portfolio will exceed 100 eyewear options by the end of 2026. That expansion includes additional styles, lens combinations and products beyond the four ranges priced for Thailand.
Ray-Ban Meta Audio is a new line without a camera. It weighs as little as 43 grams, comes in Clubmaster and Burbank styles, and supports a wide range of prescriptions. Meta rates it for up to 12 hours of use, with up to 48 additional hours supplied by its charging case.
The companies are also adding Capri and Nova styles to their Meta Glasses collection and introducing two models designed with LISA. These products illustrate how the partnership is expanding through fashion and fit as well as technical features.
Mark Zuckerberg, Meta's chief executive, explained the emphasis on variety:
AI glasses need to match people's individual sense of style while looking and feeling great on every kind of face. Meta and EssilorLuxottica are working to make sure every person can find the right pair for them, and the products we announced today bring new options for everyone.
Several software announcements have specific geographic limits. Muse, Meta's personal AI agent, and Hearing Enhancement are described as available in the United States only. EssilorLuxottica describes Hearing Enhancement as software cleared by the US Food and Drug Administration for adults with perceived mild to moderate hearing loss, with access through a payment or subscription later in the year.
Other announced developments include Dynamic Photo, which lets users choose a preferred frame, Landscape Crop Mode and Dolby Atmos support for spatial audio. The companies also plan guided workouts, nutrition functions and expanded navigation, including cycling and public transit directions.
Cameras bring privacy questions into everyday spaces
Meta says Ray-Ban Meta Gen 3 has a built in LED that alerts people nearby when photographs or video are being captured. The indicator is an important part of how the glasses communicate camera activity to people who are not wearing them.
Courts in New York, England and Wales have barred smart glasses from proceedings because of concerns about covert recording. Some pubs, cinemas and restaurants in the United States and United Kingdom have also prohibited them, and a proposed restriction in Norway would target use in public places.
Thai wearers will need to pay attention to the rules of the places they enter and to other people's privacy when recording. A camera positioned on a face can be less obvious to people nearby than a phone held up to take a picture.
Meta also plans to introduce what it calls private processing for AI glasses later in 2026. The companies present it as part of their privacy approach as AI functions expand. For shoppers, recording indicators, venue rules and the handling of images are practical considerations alongside battery life, fit and price.
