Alibaba.com has announced a $1 million prize pool for its expanded 2025 CoCreate Pitch competition, with flagship events in Las Vegas on September 4 and 5 and London on November 14. Two grand champions, one from each event, will each receive $200,000, divided equally between cash and Alibaba.com sourcing credits. Another 20 winners will receive up to $40,000 each, also split equally between cash and credits. The distinction matters for businesses planning production: part of each award will be money, while the other part will support sourcing through Alibaba.com.

Alibaba.com, one of the world's leading business to business e-commerce platforms, is positioning the expanded competition as the world's largest pitch event focused on products. Business to business, often shortened to B2B, means businesses buying from and selling to other businesses. For a small company with a product idea, that can mean finding a manufacturer or purchasing the goods it needs to begin selling.

The expansion coincides with World Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Day on June 27. It combines prizes with mentorship, access to a global supplier network and complimentary digital tools powered by artificial intelligence. Alibaba.com says the aim is to help entrepreneurs move from an idea to a product that can be manufactured and sold, while giving businesses from more than 200 countries and regions an opportunity to take part.

What Winners Receive, and How the Awards Work

Each grand champion's $200,000 award will consist of $100,000 in cash and $100,000 in Alibaba.com sourcing credits. For an additional winner receiving the maximum $40,000 award, the same split would mean $20,000 in cash and $20,000 in credits. These credits are tied to sourcing on the platform, making supplier access a central part of the competition's financial support.

The announced prize pool is $1 million. The two grand prizes together account for $400,000, or 40% of that total. The other 20 awards are described as being worth up to $40,000 each, rather than a fixed $40,000 for every winner. The individual amounts for those awards have not been specified.

Prize money is only one part of the programme. Winners and participants are offered mentorship and networking opportunities with industry leaders, investors and Alibaba.com's supplier network. All participants are also promised complimentary access to digital tools intended to help with rapid prototyping and production at lower cost.

Kuo Zhang, president of Alibaba.com, said the expansion would give entrepreneurs around the world access to an opportunity that had become a central feature of CoCreate:

Pitching competitions have always been a highlight of CoCreate. The passion SMEs bring to their innovative product ideas, and their entrepreneurial energy, shines brightly on stage. This year, we're thrilled to open this opportunity to entrepreneurs worldwide.

How Entrepreneurs Can Enter

Small and medium enterprises, commonly called SMEs, and entrepreneurs can apply through a short social media video or an online registration form. The competition welcomes both established businesses and startups, with no restrictions on industry or product category.

Applicants using Instagram or TikTok are asked to post a video lasting 30 seconds that highlights their business story or product. The post must include the hashtag #CoCreatePitch and tag @Alibaba.com_official. The alternative is to complete the CoCreate Pitch registration form.

The competition process lasts between two and four months. Submissions are assessed on innovation, feasibility and market potential. In plain terms, judges will consider what makes an idea different, whether it can realistically be made and whether customers are likely to want it. Shortlisted applicants will then be invited to present their ideas live in Las Vegas or London.

A panel of industry leaders and investors will judge the live presentations and select the winners. Participants who do not receive prizes will still have access to the programme's digital resources and exposure to Alibaba.com's global network. That gives the contest a role beyond selecting a small group of winners: it is also intended to connect more businesses with tools and contacts for international trade.

The Dates and What Happens on Stage

Las Vegas and London will host the two flagship events at the end of the competition process. Finalists will present their products to judges drawn from industry leaders, investors and successful entrepreneurs. The events will also include keynote speeches, networking sessions and opportunities to meet potential partners and customers.

The calendar places the announcement around an international day recognising smaller businesses, followed by two live events later in the year:

  • June 27, 2025: World Micro, Small, and Medium Enterprises Day, with which the competition's expansion coincides.
  • September 4 and 5, 2025: The Las Vegas flagship event in the United States.
  • November 14, 2025: The first European edition in London, United Kingdom.

Past CoCreate events have attracted thousands of attendees, including more than 2,000 North American SMEs in Las Vegas alone. Alibaba.com expects the London expansion to bring in more participants as Europe becomes increasingly important to its digital trade activity.

For finalists, the live stage provides exposure to investors, media and potential business partners. The broader conference also brings together people who may be able to help with manufacturing, financing or finding customers, linking the pitch itself to the practical work of bringing a product to market.

Participation Extends Beyond the Host Countries

Alibaba.com says CoCreate Pitch is open to SMEs across North America, Europe, Asia and other regions. The 2025 event is set to include participants from Vietnam, Pakistan, Italy, the United Kingdom and the United States, among other countries.

The company's regional figures show growth in several different parts of its marketplace. In Vietnam, the number of newly joined exporters increased by 48% compared with a year earlier during the April to June period. Vietnamese merchants also listed 54% more products than in the previous year.

Pakistan's exporters on Alibaba.com increased by 30% compared with a year earlier. Online transaction volume doubled in less than three months compared with the previous six months. These figures describe both an expanding number of exporters and greater transaction activity among businesses using the platform.

The Vietnam and Pakistan figures give the competition a wider setting than its two host cities. Alibaba.com is seeking to connect product creators with a supplier network that includes businesses in markets where participation in digital export trade is growing. For entrepreneurs, access to that network can widen the pool of possible manufacturing and supply partners.

European Growth and US Holiday Orders

European suppliers sold five times as many products through Alibaba.com as a year earlier. The number of paid buyers in Europe increased by 38%, with country figures showing growth of 168% in France, 53% in the United Kingdom, 68% in Italy and 48% in Germany.

France had the largest percentage increase among those four countries. The figures also show growth across several markets rather than in the United Kingdom alone, where the new London event will take place. Alibaba.com presents the European edition as part of its effort to support smaller businesses worldwide.

Orders in the United States rose by 25% compared with a year earlier, driven by businesses stocking up early for the holiday season. Festive supplies grew by more than 120%, while toys recorded a sixfold increase.

The regional activity reflects demand for digital sourcing and trade across borders as businesses seek different supply options and new markets. Early holiday purchasing in the United States shows one practical use of a B2B marketplace: businesses securing inventory before the season in which they expect to sell it.

Why Smaller Businesses Need More Than a Prize

SMEs account for about 90% of businesses and more than 50% of employment worldwide, according to figures attributed to the World Bank. Their contribution to jobs, growth and innovation makes access to funding and reliable suppliers consequential well beyond an individual competition.

Small businesses often struggle to secure money for product development and expansion. A promising design still needs resources for the work between an initial idea and a product ready to sell. CoCreate Pitch combines financial awards with sourcing credits to support that process.

Supply constraints create another difficulty. Smaller companies may lack the resources to build reliable supply arrangements or reach international markets. Alibaba.com's supplier network is intended to help participants find partners for production and connect with businesses beyond their home countries.

Digital commerce presents its own demands. Companies with limited technical expertise may find it difficult to adopt new online systems and tools powered by artificial intelligence. The competition's combination of digital access and mentorship is designed to help businesses use those resources while developing their products.

Alibaba.com's proposal therefore links three needs that often arrive together: money to develop an idea, suppliers to make it and guidance to move it towards customers. The company describes this as a way to broaden access to international markets for SMEs from different backgrounds.

How the AI Tools Fit Into Product Development

Alibaba.com's tools powered by artificial intelligence are a central part of the competition. The company says they can help businesses design, test and refine products more efficiently, supporting rapid prototyping. A prototype is an early version of a product that allows its creator to examine and improve the idea before wider production.

Participants are also offered access to suppliers around the world. The platform is intended to help businesses find potential partners, negotiate terms and manage production as their operations grow. For a company preparing to make a product in larger quantities, those steps connect the design work to the manufacturing process.

Digital sourcing is also intended to reduce the expense and administrative work involved in procurement, the process of buying goods or materials for a business. Alibaba.com says streamlining that work can lower overhead costs and help SMEs compete.

At the broader CoCreate conference, Alibaba.com is also set to launch what it describes as the world's first conversational search engine powered by artificial intelligence. Conversational search allows a user to describe what they need in ordinary language. The planned engine is intended to make it easier for businesses to discover products, suppliers and market opportunities.

The tools, supplier access and mentorship sit alongside the prize competition rather than being reserved solely for its champions. Alibaba.com says every participant will receive complimentary access to digital resources, making practical sourcing support part of the experience even for applicants who do not win.

A Product Focus With Manufacturing Support

CoCreate Pitch specifically targets product ideas that could disrupt markets or meet needs that existing products leave unaddressed. Its emphasis is on tangible products that can be prototyped and brought to market, with applicants assessed on both the originality and commercial promise of their ideas.

The competition's combination of a $1 million prize pool, international participation and live events gives those ideas a large platform. Its connection to Alibaba.com's services adds supplier access, sourcing tools and mentorship to the usual opportunity to present a business to judges.

Liz Wang, Alibaba.com's global head of commercial strategy, described the programme as support for the different stages of building a product business:

The 'can-do' spirit of SMEs has always been the inspiration of CoCreate. Alibaba.com's global supply chain empowers these businesses to turn their product dreams into reality. From ideation to production, financing to mentorship, we're here to help them 'make it.'

Alibaba.com frames CoCreate as a way to help smaller businesses adapt to economic uncertainty and changing markets. The expanded competition brings together digital sourcing, artificial intelligence and collaboration across borders, trends already reflected in the company's regional trade figures.

For participating entrepreneurs, the concrete opportunity is to seek funding, develop supplier relationships and put a product before investors and potential partners. The next scheduled milestones are the September event in Las Vegas and the November event in London, where finalists will compete for the two grand prizes.
