Outgoing titleholder Hà Trúc Linh placed the Ngọc Liên Diệu Nhật crown on her successor at the end of a final lasting more than three hours. Its design takes inspiration from a lotus reaching toward sunlight, an image echoed in the evening's fashion presentations.

Trần Xuân Khánh Linh finished as first runner up, receiving a prize worth 300 million dong, while Lê Phương Nghi became second runner up and received 250 million dong. Both are also 20. About 7,000 spectators attended the final at the Đồi Rồng international tourism complex in the coastal district.

Yến Trang's victory surprised some viewers because she had not featured prominently in predictions before the final. Her answer about peace, built around ordinary freedoms such as studying and working, became a defining moment of the evening.

Beyond the result, her story connects several parts of this year's competition: university education, preparation largely undertaken on her own, cultural activities and community service. She studies primary education at Hanoi Metropolitan University and previously reached the top 20 at Miss University Vietnam 2025.

Peace explained through an ordinary morning

Yến Trang entered the final five alongside Khánh Linh, Phương Nghi, Đặng Thị Ngọc Lan and Đinh Hoàng Gia Linh. Each contestant had two minutes to answer a question. Organizers said they received more than 4,000 questions from the public to help build the question bank for the final.

Asked how she felt about the beauty of a peaceful Vietnam and how she would share it internationally, Yến Trang began with daily life: waking beneath a blue sky, hearing birds and having the opportunity to study, work and contribute.

Her full question was: "As a Vietnamese citizen, how do you feel about the beauty of a peaceful country? How would you like to share that image with international friends?"

She answered:

There are lands and skies still straining under the sound of bombs and gunfire. That is why I feel fortunate to live in Vietnam, waking every morning beneath a clear blue sky, hearing birds sing, and being able to study, work and contribute. To me, that is the extraordinary beauty of peace.

The 2019 United States and North Korea summit showed that Vietnam is not only a peace-loving country but also has a responsibility to help build and spread peace throughout the world. I am proud to be Vietnamese and want to introduce international friends to a beautiful, friendly country rich in cultural identity.

Yến Trang, answering as a finalist before receiving the crown, expressed her national pride:

I am proud to be Vietnamese.

She also referred to the 2019 summit between the United States and North Korea held in Vietnam. In her answer, hosting that meeting represented a role for Vietnam in helping create and spread peace internationally.

Her response moved between two scales. At home, peace meant a safe morning and the chance to pursue an education. Abroad, it meant a country able to host diplomacy. That connection gave a large political idea a familiar meaning for an audience watching a beauty competition.

A teaching tradition across three generations

Hanoi Metropolitan University is a family connection as well as Yến Trang's place of study. Her paternal grandfather previously lectured there, and her mother, Ngọc Yến, also graduated from the institution.

Ngọc Yến now teaches at Yên Hòa Secondary School in Hanoi's Cầu Giấy area. Her work inspired her daughter to choose primary education after gaining admission to three universities in the capital. Yến Trang's father runs an independent business.

Her mother described her as gentle, disciplined and careful with other people's feelings. Reading, especially books about psychology, is among her strongest interests. According to Ngọc Yến, her daughter often shows affection by studying hard and achieving good results.

The family's approach to raising her combined firm expectations with encouragement. Her mother said the parents tried to understand their daughter's needs at different ages, with one offering reassurance when the other needed to correct her.

The crown now adds public duties to her university studies. Her mother acknowledged feeling anxious about those responsibilities, while expressing confidence in the habits Yến Trang had already developed for organizing her studies and daily life.

Years of practice before a surprising result

Yến Trang's interest in pageants began in childhood, when she watched competitions on television with encouragement from her maternal grandmother. During her school years, she would play music and practise her runway walk at home.

She told her mother last year that she wanted to enter Miss Vietnam and received her family's support. Ngọc Yến said her daughter handled much of the preparation herself, learning to sing, rehearsing her talent performance and watching instructional videos to improve her skills.

During the competition, Yến Trang continued practising answers to questions and completing the organizers' assignments. For the Talent and Arts challenge, she performed Jessie J's song Flashlight. She described entering the pageant as a chance to grow more confident, mature and contribute to the community.

Nearly 60 relatives, friends, neighbors and colleagues of her mother traveled to the final to support her. Students from Phan Đình Phùng High School and Hanoi Metropolitan University were also present.

Ngọc Yến, the winner's mother, described the family's reaction when the result was announced:

Yến Trang becoming Miss Vietnam was a complete surprise. However, she has always been the beauty queen in our family's hearts.

The surprise was shared by some viewers who had focused on other contestants before the final. For her family, the televised result followed years of watching a private ambition gradually become a serious commitment.

The other finalists brought different strengths

Khánh Linh, the first runner up, studies professional communication at British University Vietnam. She graduated as valedictorian from APU American International School in 2024 and also received the competition's Compassion Ambassador award.

During the evening gown presentation, she stumbled while wearing an elaborate fitted dress, then stood up and completed her performance. In the question round, she spoke about Hải Phòng through her experience of spending two months there with fellow contestants, recalling its food, people and history.

Khánh Linh's question was: "What can you say about Hải Phòng, the city of red flamboyant flowers?"

She answered:

"When we live in a place, it is merely land. When we leave, the land has become part of our soul." Although Hải Phòng is not my hometown, over the past two months I have shared a home with my fellow Miss Vietnam 2026 contestants.

I have seen Hải Phòng's beauty through its diverse cuisine, generous people and long history. That is reflected in the very name Hải Phòng, through the legacy of Hải Tân Phòng Thủ. With the merger with Hải Dương, I believe Hải Phòng together with Hải Dương will develop even more strongly.

She closed with an invitation in English: "Visit Hai Phong to see the beauty and our resilience".

Phương Nghi, the second runner up, comes from Gia Lai and studies at Foreign Trade University's Ho Chi Minh City campus. She previously won the university's 2025 beauty title. Her final question concerned the purpose of learning when information can be found so easily.

Her full question was: "Today, almost any information can be found with just a few steps using search engines. In your view, what makes learning and accumulating knowledge an irreplaceable journey for every young person?"

Phương Nghi argued that young people still need critical thinking, creativity and a firm sense of their own values when using technology. Put simply, finding an answer online and knowing how to judge or use it are different skills.

She contrasted the difficulties earlier generations faced in accessing knowledge with the growth of artificial intelligence and technology, saying young people now need to maintain independent thinking. She said: "In an age when countless questions already have answers, learning is not only about acquiring knowledge but also about developing critical thinking, creativity and the confidence to absorb the best while retaining your own values."

As a Foreign Trade University student, she said she chose to keep developing her knowledge to master technology while nurturing compassion. She ended by expressing a wish to use knowledge and a compassionate heart to spread love to others.

The remaining finalists addressed identity and confidence. Ngọc Lan discussed preserving national culture while adopting technology, and Gia Linh drew on her experience of overcoming insecurity about her appearance to encourage girls to value their individual beauty.

Ngọc Lan's question was: "Vietnam is entering a new era, advancing strongly on the international stage. In your view, what should young Vietnamese people strive to preserve and what should they change to help the country develop more strongly?"

She answered:

Vietnam is entering a new era and a period of integration. We must constantly study and train while preserving our nation's identity and values. Vietnam has a long history, and our ancestors sacrificed a great deal of sweat and tears to preserve independence.

Our younger generation must constantly innovate, learn and embrace technology so we can reach out to the world. Young people like us must never stop learning.

Gia Linh's question was: "The perfect images from beauty pageants often make girls feel insecure about their appearance. What do you do to overcome that insecurity?"

She answered:

We are all born as unique creations of nature. I think we should respect that diversity, and there is no single standard for beauty. Before standing here, Gia Linh was a shy, insecure girl who thought she was not beautiful enough. But Gia Linh realized that her beauty lay within.

I want to tell all girls that, like every flower, we need time to bloom brilliantly. Girls, always believe that you are beautiful women. No girl is without beauty; it is just that we do not yet know how to reveal it.

How the field narrowed to one winner

Miss Vietnam 2026 combined selection rounds, a reality television program, training and community activities. Judges selected 25 finalists from a semifinal field of 53, meaning fewer than half of that group reached the last night.

On November 7, the contestants appeared in áo dài, swimwear and evening gowns. The áo dài is Vietnam's traditional long tunic, usually worn over trousers. Successive announcements reduced the field to 15, then 10 and finally five before the question round.

The competition's main milestones included:

  • June 2026: Recruitment activities and exchanges at universities began.
  • During the selection process: A field of 53 semifinalists was reduced to 25 finalists.
  • Before the final: Contestants trained, filmed the television program and joined cultural and community activities.
  • November 7, from 8 p.m.: The national final took place at Danh Vọng Square in Đồ Sơn.
  • At the end of the evening: Yến Trang received the crown from Hà Trúc Linh.

The judging panel included Colonel and film director Đặng Thái Huyền, Miss Vietnam 2016 Đỗ Mỹ Linh, designer Lê Thanh Hòa, presenter Trần Ngọc and organizing committee head Phùng Công Sưởng. Miss Vietnam 2002 Phạm Thị Mai Phương served as a guest judge at the semifinal and final.

Community work took contestants beyond the stage

Hải Phòng provided the setting for activities that formed part of the contestants' preparation and assessment. Yến Trang joined mangrove planting and activities honoring veterans, connecting her participation with environmental work and local history.

The wider program included visits to the Côn Sơn and Kiếp Bạc heritage complex, Chu Đậu pottery village, an SOS Children's Village and a care center for people recognized for service to the country. Contestants also paid respects at K15 Wharf, visited children facing difficult circumstances and helped clean the Đồ Sơn coastal environment.

Those activities gave the competition's four stated values, beauty, culture, intellect and contribution, practical settings. Cultural visits introduced contestants to heritage, while time with children and veterans required them to engage with people outside the rehearsal room.

Hải Phòng also had a visible presence among the finalists. Four contestants from the city reached the top 25: Hoàng Thị Hà Phương, Phạm Vân Hà, Bùi Mai Linh and Lưu Phương Anh. Mai Phương said she was proud of their achievement.

The location gave the host city an opportunity to present its coastal scenery, historical sites and visitor attractions to a national audience. The final brought that promotion together with weeks of activities in which contestants encountered the city directly.

Lotus designs, silk and six additional awards

Director Trần Tú created an outdoor stage covering more than 2,000 square meters, drawing inspiration from traditional silk weaving. Curved structures and overlapping layers supported the Dệt miền thanh xuân concept, with a broader message connecting inherited culture and youth.

The áo dài collection, Mạch Liên Hoa, was created by Miss Vietnam 2010 Đặng Thị Ngọc Hân and designer Hạnh Nguyễn, inspired by lotus paintings by artist Bùi Trọng Dư. Dery Swimwear produced the swimwear presentation, drawing on pearls and ocean light.

Đức Bảo and Khánh Vy hosted the show. Performers included Minh Hằng, Văn Mai Hương, S.T Sơn Thạch, Maiquinn and Minh Ngọc, with music ranging from contemporary pop and dance to folk influences.

The organizer-published results announcement named Yến Trang as the winner, Khánh Linh as first runner up and Phương Nghi as second runner up. It also named Khánh Linh, Tạ Thị Hoa, Đinh Hoàng Gia Linh, Đinh Diệu Anh and Bùi Mai Linh as recipients of the Compassion, Tourism and Environment, Media and Arts, Fashion and Sports, and Beach Beauty awards respectively.

Organizers also awarded six additional prizes worth 50 million dong each:

  • Compassion Ambassador: Trần Xuân Khánh Linh.
  • Tourism and Environment Ambassador: Tạ Thị Hoa.
  • Media and Arts Ambassador: Đinh Hoàng Gia Linh.
  • Fashion and Sports Ambassador: Đinh Diệu Anh.
  • Most Popular Contestant: Vũ Hồng Hạnh.
  • Beach Beauty: Bùi Mai Linh.

The three principal prizes totaled 1.05 billion dong. Adding the six additional awards, worth a combined 300 million dong, brought the announced prize value for these categories to 1.35 billion dong.

A handover centered on responsibility

Hà Trúc Linh joined the opening performance with the 25 finalists and outgoing runners up Trần Ngọc Châu Anh and Nguyễn Thị Vân Nhi. She had spent time rehearsing her farewell walk and preparing the speech that would close her tenure.

During her time as titleholder, Hà Trúc Linh took part in charitable activities and fashion events and traveled to experience different regional cultures. In her farewell remarks, she described learning to listen and mature while also feeling pressure to be worthy of the role.

Miss Vietnam began in 1988 under the name Hoa hậu Hội Báo Tiền Phong, with Hanoi's Bùi Bích Phương as its first winner. The competition is held every two years and has maintained a focus on education, conduct, culture and community work alongside stage presentation.

Phùng Công Sưởng, editor in chief of Tiền Phong and head of the organizing committee, set out the expectation facing the new winner:

The crown is recognition today, but responsibility and contribution are what create tomorrow's value.

For Yến Trang, that expectation now sits beside her preparation for a teaching career. No detailed schedule for her first activities as Miss Vietnam was announced. Her next task is to turn the qualities assessed during the competition into work carried out as its public representative.
