Operator Oriental Land Company confirmed the date in its October 27 announcement, published in 2026. The opening gives a precise date to a project previously scheduled for spring 2027 and anchors a series of activities beginning more than three months before the first ride.
The launch extends beyond the attraction. A smartphone training game and limited sticker distribution begin January 12, Tomorrowland decorations arrive February 8, and a new popcorn stand opens April 15. Projections inspired by the attraction begin at Cinderella Castle on March 18. Pixel Prism, a shop beside the ride, opens with it on April 15.
For visitors, an important practical detail concerns the digital souvenirs: guests must have the Tokyo Disney Resort App running and Bluetooth switched on for ride photographs to register automatically in the app's My Photos section. Scores can also be viewed in the app for a limited period. Photographs will be available to purchase for 30 days from the date they are taken.
How guests will help Ralph and Vanellope
Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue takes place inside Sugar Rush, the candy themed racing game from Wreck-It Ralph. King Candy wants to conquer the video game world and has transformed sweets, including gummy candies, lollipops, bubble gum and ice cream, into Sugar Bugs programmed to eat the kingdom.
Riders join Ralph, Vanellope and their friends to restore those creatures to their original candy forms. Vehicles carry guests through different scenes while scanners installed aboard let them take part in the rescue. The mission combines a shared goal, saving Sugar Rush, with individual scores that add a competitive element.
Disney's official ride overview says points depend on factors including the types and number of Sugar Bugs restored. Guests will see their results on screens in their vehicles and can check them again through the resort app for a limited period after riding.
Henry Jackman, who composed the film's music, has composed music for the attraction, with newly recorded tracks accompanying the adventure. His involvement connects the new ride's sound to the film while giving its rescue story its own musical setting.
The phone settings that matter before boarding
The Tokyo Disney Resort App connects the ride experience with two things guests can keep track of afterward: their score and photographs taken during the adventure. For ride photographs to register automatically in My Photos, the app must be running and Bluetooth must be switched on.
Bluetooth is a wireless connection used by nearby devices to communicate. Here, enabling it is part of the setup required for the app's ride photo function. Guests who want that feature should make the settings part of their preparations before boarding.
Ride photographs will automatically appear in the app's My Photos section and can then be selected for purchase through the app or the ordering website. The purchase window runs for 30 days from the photography date. Scores have a separate, limited viewing period in the app.
A new attraction in the former Buzz Lightyear space
Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue is being created by reimagining Buzz Lightyear's Astro Blasters, which permanently closed in October 2024. The change replaces a Toy Story mission with a Wreck-It Ralph adventure while retaining the broad idea of guests riding through scenes and using devices to score points.
Oriental Land previously indicated an investment of approximately ¥29.5 billion in the project. That spending places the attraction within a wider renewal of Tomorrowland, which also includes Space Mountain Earthrise, a redesigned central plaza, shops and places to eat.
Admission to Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue may require a free Standby Pass or paid Disney Premier Access. Oriental Land has not specified when either will be required, a Premier Access price, or the length of time scores will remain visible in the app. Its published schedule gives Space Mountain Earthrise a 2027 opening window rather than a specific day.
The dates leading up to opening day
Tokyo Disneyland's preparations begin on January 12, 2027, which is 93 days before the attraction opens on April 15. The schedule separates the digital game, decorations, food and retail launches, giving visitors different parts of the Sugar Rush experience depending on when they visit.
- January 12, 2027: The smartphone training game and limited sticker distribution begin.
- February 8, 2027: Decorations and opportunities for themed photographs begin appearing in Tomorrowland.
- March 17, 2027: Sugar-Lime Popcorn goes on sale.
- March 18, 2027: Projections inspired by Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue begin at Cinderella Castle.
- April 15, 2027: Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, Pixel Prism and Popping Station open on Tokyo Disneyland's 44th anniversary.
Popping Station opens on the same day as the ride. Visitors arriving before then will be able to try the new popcorn flavor and see parts of the launch program before the attraction itself opens.
Training starts at home, then moves into the park
The smartphone minigame introduces players to the task of saving Sugar Rush before they board a ride vehicle. It will be accessible through Tokyo Disney Resort's official website and social media accounts, as well as through a code printed on the back of the limited stickers distributed ahead of opening.
Players can use the game at home. A special version available in selected areas of Tokyo Disneyland will incorporate park scenery into the experience, connecting the digital activity to a visit. Limited sticker distribution is scheduled to start alongside the game on January 12, though the operator says distribution may change or end without notice.
Tomorrowland's decorations follow on February 8, adding settings for photographs inspired by the attraction's candy world. From March 18, projection mapping will bring related imagery to Cinderella Castle. Projection mapping fits projected pictures to a building's surfaces, allowing its shape and architectural details to become part of the display.
Pixel Prism brings the game world into a shop
Pixel Prism opens next to Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue on April 15, 2027. Its design follows the idea of a digital marketplace, with details inspired by fiber optics, flooring patterned with pixels and motifs drawn from games.
A large illuminated pixel structure will stand at the entrance. Pixels are the small units that form a digital image, so the design carries a familiar part of video game imagery into a physical retail space.
The shop will sell attraction merchandise and other goods. Announced items include postcards depicting Ralph and Vanellope playing games in Sugar Rush, Sugar Bug designs, character plush toys, candy and toys inspired by the scanners aboard the ride. The merchandise gives visitors a way to take home the characters and equipment introduced during the mission.
Sugar-Lime Popcorn arrives before the ride
Popping Station will open near Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue, facing Tomorrowland Plaza, on April 15, 2027. The stand is designed around the idea of a popular popcorn stop in space, with blue and white lighting intended to stand out at night.
Its new Sugar-Lime Popcorn flavor draws inspiration from the Sugar Bugs and is described as sweet and tart. Disney says the flavor will be exclusive to Tokyo Disneyland and will also be sold at popcorn wagons around the park, giving guests places beyond the new stand to buy it.
The flavor joins a resort popcorn selection that already includes soy sauce and butter, garlic shrimp and strawberry napoleon. Restaurants across Tokyo Disneyland will also serve special menu items celebrating the attraction's opening. Oriental Land says merchandise and menu selections may change without notice, and products may sell out or stop being sold.
How Sugar Rush fits into Tomorrowland's changes
Tokyo Disney Resort's Tomorrowland development page places Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue alongside Space Mountain Earthrise and Tomorrowland Plaza in the area's renewal. The projects bring together an interactive game, a journey through space and a public area designed around humanity's relationship with nature.
Space Mountain Earthrise will be an indoor roller coaster with new architecture, a newly developed ride system and theatrical effects inspired by space. Its vehicles will carry an onboard audio system, a first for roller coasters at Tokyo Disney Resort. Coca-Cola (Japan) Company is the attraction's official sponsor.
The name Earthrise refers to the sight of Earth rising beyond the Moon's surface. The attraction's exterior will use curves inspired by celestial movement and natural forms such as trees and flowers, carrying the connection between space and nature into the building's design.
Tomorrowland Plaza will feature structures inspired by fire, water, earth and wood, together with light associated with the Sun and Moon. Lighting and sound will change the area after dark. Element Express, a counter service restaurant, will serve snacks and drinks in the plaza.
April 15 therefore marks a specific opening for Sugar Rush: Sweet Rescue and Pixel Prism within a broader sequence of changes. Visitors planning around the candy rescue mission now have a firm date, while the rest of Tomorrowland's renewal follows its own schedule.
