Eight of Seventeen's 13 members are now serving

Their enlistment brings the number of members currently serving to eight out of the group's 13. Five are in the Army and three are serving as social service agents. Seungkwan and Dino are the final two members required to begin service, completing a sequence of enlistments that started with Jeonghan in September 2024.

Jeonghan completed his service in June 2026. Of the remaining four members, leader S.Coups received an exemption following a serious knee injury, while Joshua, Jun and The8 are foreign nationals who are not subject to the same military obligation.

For fans, known as CARAT, the immediate change is that Seungkwan and Dino will no longer participate in Seventeen activities during their service. Pledis has said that material prepared before enlistment will continue to be released, keeping the members present through recorded content while they are away.

The agency also asked fans to stay away from the training center. The enlistment ceremony is shared with other recruits and their families, and no separate official event was planned for the two performers.

Basic training comes before the military band

Seungkwan and Dino are beginning their service with basic military training. They will then serve in the Army's military band, according to Pledis. Their arrival together means they share an enlistment date and the same announced type of assignment.

A military band assignment is part of Army service. For the two singers, it follows the initial training period rather than replacing it. Their group schedules stop when their service begins.

Pledis Entertainment, the agency responsible for Seventeen's activities, announced the date through the fan platform Weverse before their enlistment:

Seungkwan and Dino are scheduled to enlist in the Army military band on Oct. 26,

No discharge dates or date for a reunion involving all 13 members were announced. The confirmed arrangement covers their entry, basic training and subsequent band service.

How the enlistments unfolded

Seventeen's military service period has developed in stages over more than two years. Jeonghan was the first to begin, followed by members entering either the Army or alternative service. Seungkwan and Dino's arrival closes the list of members still waiting to start.

The chronology also shows why the group's absences overlap. Several members began service during 2025, while Mingyu, Seungkwan and Dino joined them in 2026.

  • September 2024: Jeonghan became the first member to begin military service.
  • April 2025: Wonwoo began alternative service.
  • August 20, 2025: Vernon began alternative service.
  • September 2025: DK, Woozi and Hoshi entered the Army. DK enlisted on September 8, Woozi on September 15 and Hoshi on September 16.
  • June 2026: Jeonghan completed his service.
  • September 10, 2026: Mingyu began alternative service.
  • October 26, 2026: Seungkwan and Dino entered together for Army service, with military band assignments to follow basic training.

Reports accompanying Pledis's announcement identified Wonwoo as a social service worker and Hoshi and Woozi as serving in the Army. They also gave August 20 as Vernon's alternative service start date, September 8 as DK's Army enlistment date and June as the month Jeonghan completed service.

Jeonghan's return and the latest enlistments are therefore parts of the same continuing transition. One member has finished his obligation, while eight others are still completing theirs.

Who is serving, and in which roles?

Seungkwan and Dino join Woozi, Hoshi and DK among the five members serving in the Army. Wonwoo, Vernon and Mingyu are the three members serving as social service agents.

Social service is an alternative way of fulfilling the military service obligation through designated public service work. It is a different assignment from active Army duty, but it still takes members away from their normal entertainment schedules. Pledis has not disclosed the reasons for the individual social service assignments.

The numbers put the scale of the interruption into focus: eight of Seventeen's 13 members, more than half the group, are currently serving. Among the nine members required to undertake service, Jeonghan has completed it and the other eight have now begun.

S.Coups was exempted after severely rupturing ligaments in his left knee during filming in 2023. Joshua, Jun and The8 are foreign nationals. Those circumstances explain why the end of the enlistment sequence involves nine members rather than all 13.

Mingyu's service began before the latest departures

Mingyu began alternative service on September 10, ahead of Seungkwan and Dino's October 26 enlistment. Pledis announced the arrangements for all three together, setting out when each would stop participating in group activities.

The agency said the three would continue their scheduled official activities until their respective service began. Their departures were therefore staggered: Mingyu's participation ended first, while Seungkwan and Dino remained available until their own reporting date.

Pledis Entertainment explained the effect on the group's schedule in its announcement:

All three members will be unable to participate in Seventeen's activities after beginning their service, but they will continue to connect with CARAT through various content prepared in advance,

For audiences, the practical difference is between newly scheduled appearances and content recorded earlier. Fans may continue seeing the members in released material even while those members are unavailable for Seventeen's current activities.

Fans asked to keep farewells online

Pledis asked supporters not to visit the recruit training center because the entry ceremony involves many service members and their families. The agency also said there would be no separate official events on the days the members reported for duty.

Mingyu's alternative service workplace was covered by a similar request. Pledis asked fans not to visit that location, extending its guidance beyond the Army training center to the place where he carries out his duties.

Weverse was offered as a place for fans to leave farewell messages and encouragement. That gives supporters a way to express their wishes while keeping the reporting sites available for the people attending or working there.

Pledis Entertainment also asked fans to maintain their support throughout the service period:

We ask for your continued love and support so that Mingyu, Seungkwan and Dino can faithfully fulfill their military duties and return in good health,

Pledis's full Weverse announcement

The full text of the announcement, as reproduced in reporting, reads:

Hello, we're Pledis Entertainment.

We will inform you of the schedule of fulfilling the military service obligations of SEVENTEEN members Mingyu, Seungkwan, and Dino.

First of all, Seungkwan and Dino will join the army as military musicians on Oct. 26. We will participate in the official schedule scheduled before joining the army without any problems, and we ask you to refrain from visiting the training center on the day of enlistment as it is a place where many soldiers and their families are together.

Mingyu will fulfill his military service obligations from September 10th, and likewise, he will participate in the official schedule scheduled before his service without a hitch. There are no separate official events on the start date of service and the day of admission to the training center in the future, and please refrain from visiting alternative service sites.

All three members have not been able to participate in SEVENTEEN's schedule since the start of their service, but we will continue to visit CARATs through various contents prepared in advance. I would appreciate it if you could leave your sent-off and encouragement for the members through Weverse.

We ask for your unwavering love and support so that Mingyu, Seungkwan, and Dino can faithfully fulfill their military service obligations and return to a healthier state. We will also spare no effort in continuing to support artists.

Prepared content will continue during the absence

Pledis plans to release a variety of content prepared before the members began service. The announcement offers fans a continuing connection with the performers during a period when eight members are unavailable because of their duties.

The agency's commitment concerns material already prepared, rather than participation by serving members in new group schedules. It has not set out a release calendar or named the formats of that content.

Seungkwan and Dino's enlistment also changes the shape of the group's military absence. There are now no further members waiting to begin the service obligation described by the agency. Attention shifts to the members carrying out their duties and eventually completing them, as Jeonghan did in June.

For Seventeen, the immediate picture is concrete: five members are serving in the Army, three are social service agents, and previously prepared material will help maintain contact with CARAT during their absence.
