Bangkok commuters get a digital Rabbit card
Samsung is bringing Rabbit Virtual Card to selected Galaxy smartphones in Bangkok, with a phased rollout beginning October 20, 2026, and support scheduled to reach all eligible models by October 26. Passengers can use the digital card on the BTS Sukhumvit, Silom and Gold lines, the MRT Pink and Yellow lines, and Bangkok's BRT buses.

The service, developed with Bangkok Smartcard System, the Rabbit Card operator, puts a transit card inside Samsung Wallet. After setting up an account and adding money, passengers can tap their phones at compatible gates instead of carrying a physical Rabbit card. Participating boat ticket machines and shops accepting Rabbit payments are also included.
Samsung's official Wallet page lists the supported routes, devices and activation steps. The integration still leaves gaps for people crossing between transport networks: the MRT Blue and Purple lines currently use a separate payment system and are outside this Rabbit service.
A launch promotion offers an effective fare of 20 baht on two qualifying rail journeys per registered virtual card, through cashback paid after travel. Registration opens November 1, 2026, for the first 10,000 cards, with the campaign ending December 31 or earlier if its allocation is exhausted.
For commuters, the immediate change is the ability to leave a physical Rabbit card behind on participating routes. The promotional savings have a much narrower reach: passengers pay their usual fares first, and only their first two qualifying journeys receive the cashback.
Which rail lines and buses accept it?
Samsung's official service list covers five rail lines: BTS Sukhumvit, Silom and Gold, plus MRT Pink and Yellow. The inclusion of the two MRT routes matters because acceptance depends on the payment system used by each line, rather than the MRT name alone.
The Sukhumvit line runs between Kheha in Samut Prakan and Khu Khot. The Silom line connects Bang Wa with National Stadium, while the Gold line links Krung Thon Buri and Khlong San. The Yellow line runs from Lat Phrao to Samrong, and the Pink line from Nonthaburi Civic Center to Min Buri.
BRT passengers can also use the virtual card on the route between Sathon and Ratchaphruek. Those stops provide connections with BTS Chong Nonsi and Talat Phlu, respectively, making the phone useful for journeys combining rail and bus travel.
The MRT Blue and Purple lines require another accepted payment method, such as a supported bank card, prepaid card or other ticket option. Their EMV Contactless system accepts compatible payment cards through a different arrangement from Rabbit. Someone transferring from a supported BTS line to the Blue line will therefore still need a payment option for that part of the journey.
Boat tickets are available at specific machines
Samsung's official page identifies 11 participating boat ticket machine locations. They are Sathorn 1, Sathorn 2, Ratchawong, Rachini, Tha Chang 1, Tha Chang 2, Tha Maharaj, Phran Nok, Phra Arthit, BTS Saphan Taksin and Tha Tien. Launch descriptions refer to coverage at 10 piers; the official list specifies 11 machine locations, including BTS Saphan Taksin.
Passengers use the phone to buy a ticket at a participating machine. The launch details describe tickets for Chao Phraya Express Boat services carrying orange, yellow, yellow and green, and red flags, along with the blue flag Chao Phraya Tourist Boat. Shops accepting Rabbit payments are another place where the virtual card can be used.
How to activate the virtual card
New customers first need a My Rabbit account and an activated Rabbit Wallet, the account used to hold money for the service. The published registration process requires a Thai national identity card and a facial scan. It directs applicants to select the Thai citizen option; a registration route for foreign passport holders is not specified.
Existing My Rabbit users can start in Samsung Wallet, select the option to add a card, choose transit cards and then select Rabbit Virtual Card. Samsung's instructions call for the My Rabbit PIN, acceptance of the service terms and consent to the stated disclosure of personal information.
Users then choose a card design, complete the issuance step and select Add to Samsung Wallet. After activation, they need to add money before travelling. The setup guidance describes topping up Rabbit Wallet through a banking app.
Samsung's standard instructions include payment of a card issuance fee, while the launch announcement says the first virtual card receives a fee waiver. No fee amount or detailed conditions for that waiver were given. Customers should check the charge displayed during activation before confirming.
Samsung Wallet and My Rabbit should both be updated before registration. Completing the account checks and adding funds before reaching the station also avoids having to work through the setup at a busy gate.
Which Galaxy phones qualify?
Compatibility is limited to named models. Samsung's official list includes the Galaxy S22, S23, S24, S25 and S26 families, their listed FE variants, and the Galaxy S21 FE. The Galaxy A models named are the A36 5G, A37 5G, A56 5G and A57 5G.
The foldable list runs from the Galaxy Z Fold4 through the Fold8, including the Fold8 Ultra, and from the Z Flip4 through the Flip8, including the Flip7 FE. The published software requirement is One UI 8.0 or Android 16 or later. One UI is Samsung's software interface built on Android, so users need to check both their phone model and its installed software.
Samsung says the Tap and Go function works without opening the screen or entering a password. The company also says tapping remains possible when the phone's battery is depleted. It has not specified how long that function remains available after the battery runs out.
How the 20 baht cashback works
The fare campaign runs from November 1 to December 31, 2026, subject to its allocation. It covers qualifying journeys on the BTS Sukhumvit, Silom and Gold lines and the MRT Yellow and Pink lines. BRT journeys, boat tickets and shop purchases are outside the stated promotional rail coverage.
Passengers pay the normal fare when travelling. The amount above 20 baht is then returned to the Rabbit Wallet linked to the virtual card on the following day. For a qualifying fare of 45 baht, for example, the passenger pays 45 baht first and receives 25 baht back.
The virtual card and linked Rabbit Wallet must remain active and usable until the refund is completed. Passengers therefore need enough money available to cover the full fare at the time of travel, even if they expect a refund the next day.
The allocation is 10,000 registered cards and 20,000 cashback journeys, with a maximum of two qualifying journeys per card. The advertised 20 baht fare applies to those two journeys, rather than every trip during November and December. Someone making a return commute could use both promotional journeys in a single day.
Registration and dates to keep track of
Eligible users must register for the promotion before travelling. By SMS, they can send SAVE, followed by a space and their 13 digit Rabbit Virtual Card number, to 4694100. Each SMS costs 3 baht, and the registration process includes a reply confirming the result.
The other registration channel is Samsung Thailand's official LINE account, @samsungth, using the same SAVE message and card number. Adding the card to Samsung Wallet and registering for the cashback are separate steps.
The main dates are:
- January 2026: Samsung announced it was working with Rabbit on digital travel cards in Thailand.
- October 20, 2026: The phased Rabbit Virtual Card rollout begins.
- October 26, 2026: Samsung expects support to reach all eligible Galaxy models.
- November 1, 2026: Promotion registration and qualifying travel begin.
- December 31, 2026: The promotion ends, unless the allocation runs out earlier.
- By the end of 2026: Samsung targets further transport payment connections.
Expansion would address gaps in connecting journeys
Samsung plans to add payment support for the Red Line, Airport Rail Link, MRT Blue and Purple lines, and Bangkok Mass Transit Authority buses by the end of 2026. Those services form the next stage of its transport plans, beyond the routes currently listed for Rabbit Virtual Card. Individual activation dates and detailed payment arrangements have not been announced.
The gaps matter in a city where many rail passengers change lines. Samsung cites approximately 11 million residents and people living in the Bangkok metropolitan area for work or study, more than 4.5 million public transport passenger journeys a day, and about 1.43 million daily rail journeys. It says roughly 46% of rail users change lines at least once, while water transport carries about 70,000 passengers a day.
A phone that works on one leg of a commute can reduce the need to carry a card, but passengers still have to plan payment for the next network. Samsung's expansion target would bring more of those connecting journeys into its wallet service. The current launch gives commuters the most immediate benefit when their regular route already falls within Rabbit acceptance.
Samsung wants travel to drive daily Wallet use
Samsung Wallet had approximately 460,000 accounts in Thailand at the end of September 2026, including about 300,000 active users, according to the company's launch figures. That puts the active share at roughly 65%. Samsung targets one million accounts in 2027 and an active share of 80%.
Those targets would mean about 800,000 active accounts, compared with 300,000 in September 2026. Total accounts would need to more than double, while active accounts would need to rise to about 2.7 times their September level. The transit launch gives Samsung a service that commuters can use repeatedly during an ordinary working week.
Sitthichok Nopchinabutr, president of the Mobile Experience business at Thai Samsung Electronics, described the fare campaign as a way to build familiarity and encourage daily use. Samsung also supports digital keys for compatible vehicles and buildings, as well as boarding passes for Thai Airways and 14 other airlines. Travel is the company's starting point for bringing more of those everyday activities into Wallet.
