Three groups reach a shared milestone
LE SSERAFIM, ILLIT and KATSEYE's collaboration, "ICONIC BY MISTAKE," surpassed 200 million YouTube views at around midnight in South Korea on November 8, 2026, roughly 150 days after its June 11 video release. The milestone extends a run that included a No. 38 debut on the Billboard Hot 100 and a No. 22 debut on the UK Official Singles Chart.

The special digital single brought together three acts within HYBE's business, but spread across different labels: LE SSERAFIM at Source Music, ILLIT at BELIFT LAB, and KATSEYE under HYBE and Geffen Records. Their collaboration also divided creative responsibilities across teams, connecting KATSEYE's music operation, ILLIT's performance team and LE SSERAFIM's visual identity.
Published on HYBE's official YouTube channel, the music video passed 4.5 million views in its first nine hours and 10 million within 30 hours. By June 28, it had exceeded 50 million. Reaching 200 million in November gives the release another major audience milestone well beyond its opening weeks.
The video combines cemetery scenes, a strange dental office, police imagery and references to the groups' previous work. Its central message is more direct: three groups accustomed to public scrutiny turn criticism into a statement about keeping their own identities.
A release spread across several dates
June 11 at midnight Korean Standard Time is the video release time used to calculate the approximately 150 days to 200 million views. The song followed on streaming services at 1 p.m. on June 12. The video premiere was also dated June 10 in coverage of the release, while another publication placed the video on June 12 alongside the single.
The main dates show how the project moved quickly from a surprise announcement to international chart activity:
- June 7: The collaboration was announced.
- June 11: The music video was released on HYBE's YouTube channel, with an M Countdown performance scheduled for 6 p.m.
- June 12: The single arrived on streaming platforms at 1 p.m.
- June 19 to 25: The song appeared at No. 22 on the UK Official Singles Top 100.
- June 24: Its No. 38 Billboard Hot 100 debut was reported.
- June 28: The video had accumulated more than 50 million views.
- November 8: The video crossed 200 million views at around midnight KST.
What the viewing figures show
The 200 million total is about four times the 50 million threshold the video had already passed by June 28. Because the earlier figure was reported as more than 50 million, the precise increase between that date and November 8 cannot be calculated from those milestones.
Across approximately 150 days, 200 million views works out to about 1.33 million views a day. That is an average across the entire period: the early milestones show that viewing was much faster immediately after release, including more than 10 million plays in the first 30 hours.
YouTube counts plays rather than a separate person for every view, so the total includes repeat viewing. The release also reached No. 1 on YouTube's Music Video Trending Worldwide chart. Its dance practice video passed 10 million views within days, giving listeners another version of the collaboration focused on choreography.
The practice video's audience matters to the project's format. With three groups involved, the performance provides a shared space for their members and fans, separate from the music video's costumes, settings and story.
The song also travelled beyond YouTube
"ICONIC BY MISTAKE" entered the Billboard Hot 100 at No. 38, the Billboard Global 200 at No. 25 and the Billboard Global Excl. U.S. chart at No. 22. The Hot 100 measures song activity in the United States, while the two global charts track activity across markets, with the latter leaving out the United States.
The collaboration marked LE SSERAFIM's fourth Hot 100 entry, ILLIT's second and KATSEYE's fifth. Those counts place the same shared single at different points in each group's chart history.
In Britain, the song debuted at No. 22 on the Official Singles Top 100 for June 19 to 25 and reached No. 3 on the Official Trending Chart. The singles ranking combines streams and sales. The release competed without a physical edition, making digital listening and purchases central to its performance.
The collaboration also won first place on Mnet's M Countdown. Together, the chart positions and television music show result extend the story beyond a single platform's video counter, showing activity across audio streaming, national rankings and a Korean performance programme.
Spotify gains reached all three acts
Spotify recorded more than 3.1 million streams for the single on its first day. It entered the platform's Daily Top Songs Global chart at No. 29 on June 12 and climbed to No. 21 on June 18.
For the June 12 to 18 tracking period, the song ranked No. 25 on Spotify's Weekly Top Songs Global chart and No. 26 on its United States equivalent. Those positions provide a view of the release's first full streaming week, alongside the faster moving daily chart.
The participating artists also moved on Spotify's Weekly Top Artists Global chart. KATSEYE rose 49 places to No. 63, LE SSERAFIM reentered at No. 110, and ILLIT appeared for the first time at No. 121.
The artist chart tracks listening to performers rather than the position of one song. All three groups therefore gained visibility at the artist level during the collaboration's opening week, giving the project a wider audience footprint than its single ranking alone.
Different identities, shared creative work
LE SSERAFIM debuted in 2022 and developed a performance driven identity through releases including "Fearless," "Antifragile" and "Unforgiven." Its five members are Sakura, Kim Chaewon, Huh Yunjin, Kazuha and Hong Eunchae. The group released its second full length album, "Pureflow pt.1," in May 2026.
ILLIT debuted in 2024 with Yunah, Minju, Moka, Wonhee and Iroha. Its debut song, "Magnetic," established a youthful, melodic sound. Around the collaboration's release, ILLIT was scheduled to begin its first Japan tour, comprising 11 concerts from June 13 to July 25.
KATSEYE also debuted in 2024 after being formed through HYBE and Geffen Records' "The Debut: Dream Academy." Its members come from several countries, and its activities target an international audience. The group won three American Music Awards in May, including New Artist of the Year.
The collaboration's production was primarily led by KATSEYE's artists and repertoire team and music team. Artists and repertoire, often shortened to A&R, involves developing an artist's musical direction and coordinating songs and collaborators. ILLIT's performance team handled choreography, while the visual direction drew on LE SSERAFIM's creative identity.
Artists describe room to grow
ILLIT described the collaboration in a statement as both a chance to work with admired peers and an opportunity to move beyond its familiar concepts:
We've admired both groups, so being able to share a project with them felt very special. It also allowed us to step outside our usual concepts while staying true to our own color and identity, giving us the confidence to expand our spectrum even further as artists.
KATSEYE's statement focused on the exchange between groups with different experiences and approaches:
Bringing three distinct groups together, each with our own unique artistry and perspective, was incredibly inspiring. We found so much joy in learning from one another, sharing our experiences, and celebrating what makes each of us unique.
LE SSERAFIM similarly expressed hope that the song would encourage listeners to accept themselves and find strength in coming together despite differences. Those statements connect the collaboration's structure to its lyrics: the project gives three distinct acts a common message without asking them to present identical identities.
Why the video looks unsettling
Director Cody Critcheloe placed the performers in a world of cemetery imagery, burning fields and a dental office filled with unusual devices. Bright costumes and playful details sit alongside those darker settings.
Critcheloe explained the police imagery while discussing the video in an interview published on June 17. He described continual judgment within entertainment as the idea behind those scenes:
the police who appeared in the video are a broad metaphor for the entertainment industry, where evaluation and verification are unending.
The director also connected the title to an acceptance of unpredictability rather than a pursuit of flawless presentation:
Mistakes, serendipity, and imperfection can become elements that make someone an icon.
References to earlier releases give each fan community familiar details to notice. LE SSERAFIM's scenes recall "EASY," ILLIT's sections echo "Cherish (My Love)," and KATSEYE's imagery recalls "Touch." The shared video carries traces of all three catalogues.
KATSEYE's Manon and ILLIT's Moka were on hiatus during filming and do not appear in the video. Moka's vocals remain on the recording because she recorded them before her hiatus.
A collaboration within a larger business
HYBE brought together the groups' fan communities, known as FEARNOTs, GLLITs and EYEKONs, around one release. The arrangement gives each audience a reason to encounter the other acts through a shared song, performance and set of promotional videos.
The project arrived during HYBE's wider international expansion, including a search for members of a new girl group based in India. KATSEYE's international structure and the established overseas audiences of LE SSERAFIM and ILLIT make the collaboration a concrete example of how the company can connect acts across its labels.
By November 3, HYBE had announced a record revenue quarter of 1.5257 trillion won for the third quarter of 2026. BTS concerts were the principal growth driver, while KATSEYE contributed through a No. 1 American album, wider retail distribution and a concert schedule across Europe and North America that had sold out.
No revenue figure has been disclosed for "ICONIC BY MISTAKE." Its measurable achievements are the audience and chart milestones: 200 million music video views, international singles chart entries and streaming gains shared by three acts with different career directions.
