TiMi Studio Group, a Tencent subsidiary, developed the survival hunting action game under licence and supervision from Capcom. Garena is handling publishing in markets including Malaysia, Singapore and the Philippines. A separate version for mainland China is scheduled for 2027.

The launch adds the Charge Blade to the seven weapons previously listed for the game. Players can explore alone or gather a party, collect resources and build equipment that changes how they travel across the island and fight its monsters.

The adventure takes place on Aesoland, where an unusual environment has produced glowing, aggressive creatures called Radiant Species. The island and those monsters also appear under the names Aesolese or Isolesia Island and Lumen Species in descriptions of the game. A mysterious phenomenon involving stones drives the investigation at the heart of the story.

Players will need to make several practical decisions before starting: whether their phone meets the requirements, how much storage they can spare and which control scheme suits them. The game has no automatic combat, so players remain responsible for moving, attacking and responding to monsters during a hunt.

Eight weapons change how players fight

The launch selection includes Great Sword, Long Sword, Dual Blades, Hammer, Lance, Bow, Heavy Bowgun and Charge Blade. Producer Dong Huang confirmed the Charge Blade's inclusion after earlier information listed seven weapon types.

The Charge Blade switches between Sword Mode and Axe Mode, combining defensive options with heavier attacks. Its inclusion gives players another way to approach combat from the beginning rather than waiting for a later update.

Weapon choice works alongside the game's cast of Adventurers. Different combinations produce branching actions, giving players reasons to consider both the weapon they carry and the character using it. The game also includes original skills alongside familiar Monster Hunter weapons.

Huang and Capcom's Ryozo Tsujimoto have said future updates will add more weapons, monsters and areas. No release dates were given for those additions.

Adventurers bring different jobs to a hunt

Monster Hunter Outlanders allows players to customise an adventurer's gender and appearance and choose a name. A name can be changed once every 30 days using a ticket, making the initial choice less permanent while limiting how often it can be revised.

The playable cast has three broad roles. Assault characters specialise in attacking. Support characters focus on healing and defence. Tactician characters use the environment in unconventional ways. For a group preparing to hunt together, those roles provide a simple starting point for deciding who will concentrate on damage, protection or opportunities created by the terrain.

Adventurers are also part of the game's recruitment system. Players obtain characters through gacha pulls, a system in which a recruitment attempt produces a reward from a selection rather than letting the player simply choose any character.

The game is free to download and play, with purchases available inside the app. Launch events provide recruitment rewards without payment, while special recruitment events feature particular Adventurers. Midori, a character who uses the Long Sword, is among the first Adventurers featured in the launch programme.

Building is part of exploration and combat

Aesoland includes forests, swamps and deserts, with resource gathering and crafting built into exploration. Players investigate the island while collecting materials that can be turned into useful structures and equipment.

Zip lines help players cross the landscape quickly, while a hang glider provides another way to travel. Lookout towers reveal the map, making them useful for understanding the surrounding area. Craftable cannons can stagger monsters, briefly disrupting their movement or attacks and creating an opportunity for hunters.

Climbing, swimming and a grappling hook also appear among the movement options shown for the game. Buildable launchers and gliding facilities add further ways to move around its expansive fields.

Crafting therefore has a direct purpose beyond collecting materials. A structure can shorten a journey, reveal unexplored ground or help during a fight. Players choosing the Tactician role have a particular focus on making use of their surroundings, although exploration and building are part of the wider adventure.

The main story follows the mystery surrounding the island and its altered monsters. Ruger Aidal, an original Elder Dragon whose body radiates light, is one of the major new creatures introduced for Outlanders.

Four hunters can team up with companions

Players can explore alone or form a party of up to four hunters for cooperative play in real time. Guilds and fixed teams provide ways for people who want to keep playing together to organise regular groups.

Animal companions, known as Buddies, also take part in the adventure. The familiar Palico returns, joined by new companions including Rutaco. Buddies support activities such as hunting, exploration and building.

The launch includes several ways to play beyond following the main story. Free Hunt lets players pursue monsters, while Nest Hunt presents monster challenges across different difficulty levels. Arena content provides a place to test individual ability, with competition described as taking place on equal terms.

These activities give players different goals within the same game. Someone following the island's mystery can continue the story, while a group seeking a particular challenge can concentrate on hunts. Arena offers another option for players more interested in testing their combat performance.

Touch controls come in two forms

TiMi has included two control schemes, one aimed at people familiar with the series and another intended for players more accustomed to mobile games. Both require active participation in combat rather than having the game fight automatically.

PlayStation and Xbox controllers are supported, although controller input at launch covers selected activities, including hunting, quests and field exploration. Players should expect to use touch input for parts of the game outside that supported selection.

The development team plans to broaden controller support and improve its operation in future updates. For now, the practical choice is between the two touch layouts and controller use during supported activities.

That combination matters for a game built around both fighting and travelling. A player may prefer physical controls during a hunt but still need to interact with other screens on the phone. Controller compatibility is therefore worth considering alongside device performance rather than as a replacement for every touch interaction.

Check storage and hardware before downloading

The download figures issued before launch put Android at approximately 16 GB and iOS at approximately 20 GB. The iOS figure is 4 GB larger, or 25% more than the Android figure. Players with limited free space may need to remove other files before installing.

The App Store also listed an initial download of 3.6 GB, while some closed beta players described builds approaching 40 GB. The initial store package, the larger content download and a beta build represent different stages or versions of the installation. The figures issued immediately before launch are the most relevant starting point for planning storage.

The detailed requirements circulated with the notice before launch were:

  • Minimum iOS: iOS 15 or later, iPhone 8 Plus or later, and at least 3 GB of RAM.
  • Recommended iOS: iOS 17 or later, iPhone 13 Pro or later, and at least 6 GB of RAM.
  • Minimum Android: Android 12 or later, Snapdragon 835 or Dimensity 920 or better, and at least 4 GB of RAM.
  • Recommended Android: Android 12 or later, Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or Dimensity 9200 or better, and at least 8 GB of RAM.

RAM is the working memory a phone uses while running a game; storage is the space occupied by its files. A phone needs enough of both. The launch overview also gave a broader recommendation of at least 6 GB of RAM, while the detailed Android recommendation above calls for 8 GB.

Earlier beta guidance used different requirements, including an iPhone 12 or newer running iOS 17 and Android devices with a Snapdragon 888 or equivalent and 8 GB of RAM. Players checking an older compatibility guide should compare it with the current requirements shown for their device and region.

Launch rewards centre on recruitment and guilds

Launch activities offer recruitment rewards, rare characters and companions. Regional launch descriptions put the rewards at up to 400 recruitment attempts, while another launch description advertises more than 400 attempts' worth across the season. The rewards are tied to participation in missions and events.

Named rewards include SSR Adventurer Luka and SSR Buddy Kojiro. SSR is a rarity label used for certain characters and companions. The launch promotion also includes another SSR Adventurer named Pyro in one regional description and Enshou in another.

Midori features in two named activities: Rhythm of Maple, a hunting challenge, and Autumn Refrain, a special recruitment event. Rhythm of Maple offers challenges with rewards including exclusive titles, Rutacoins and other items.

A guild campaign runs through November 30, 2026. Players invite friends, form groups and raise their Adventurer Levels together. When the combined group level across servers reaches the designated target, players receive exclusive titles and stickers or stamps.

Before release, the registration campaign set targets at 5 million, 10 million, 15 million and 20 million registrations, plus a separate target of 2 million social media followers. The 10 million registration tier listed Adventurer Raya as its reward, while other tiers offered recruitment items, currency and materials. Those figures describe campaign targets.

The dates that shape the launch

Outlanders moved from its announcement in 2024 to a mobile release in October 2026. The next fixed deadline for players is the end of the guild campaign, while mainland China has a separate release window.

  • November 2024: Capcom and TiMi first announced Monster Hunter Outlanders.
  • October 28, 2026: Updated information issued before launch detailed download sizes and device requirements.
  • October 29, 2026: Service launched on iOS and Android.

The launch campaign also extends beyond the game. Advertising has been announced in Tokyo, New York, Berlin and Seoul, with Garena planning placements in Korean locations including Gangnam, Pangyo and Hongdae.

For players, the immediate priorities are more practical: finding the version available in their region, allowing enough storage and choosing whether to begin alone or with friends. The launch package combines active combat, character recruitment and construction, with further content promised after release.
