The Canadian singer, whose real name is Abel Tesfaye, signalled his arrival through an Instagram Story on November 2. The image showed a rain swept city centre, with the Petronas Twin Towers and Menara Kuala Lumpur visible against the skyline.

Kuala Lumpur is billed as the final international stop of the After Hours Til Dawn Tour, which began in 2022 and has travelled through the Americas, Europe and Australia. Its Southeast Asian debut this year brings the stadium production to Malaysia for two closing dates.

The four time Grammy winner arrives with a touring operation that includes dancers, choreographers, personal trainers and a pyrotechnic crew. Members of that team have also reached the Malaysian capital ahead of stage setup and rehearsals.

For concertgoers, the immediate task is planning both directions of the journey. Several events are scheduled across KL Sports City on the concert dates, adding pressure to parking, surrounding roads and pedestrian routes. The last train that serves a passenger's destination may require leaving Bukit Jalil well before the station's final departure.

From Hong Kong to Bukit Jalil

Tesfaye reached Malaysia after four nights in Hong Kong, where his run ended on October 31. Those performances attracted attention for the live debut of a new single, Hong Kong, which reached streaming platforms that same evening.

The key dates leading into the Kuala Lumpur shows are:

  • 2022: The After Hours Til Dawn Tour began.
  • October 27: Live Nation Malaysia's fan travel and safety guidance was publicised ahead of the concerts.
  • October 31: The Weeknd's four concert run in Hong Kong ended.
  • November 2: The singer shared the Kuala Lumpur skyline on Instagram as his touring team arrived.
  • November 4 and 5: The National Stadium in Bukit Jalil hosts the two Malaysian concerts, with selected rail services extended.

La Mar Taylor, the co-founder and creative director of XO Records and a longtime creative collaborator of Tesfaye, also shared views of Kuala Lumpur's skyline. His arrival places another central member of the singer's creative team in the city before the performances.

A Local Musical Reference Before the Malaysian Shows

Hong Kong draws on Faye Wong's 1993 ballad Monsoon, bringing a familiar Cantopop recording into The Weeknd's latest release. A sample uses part of an existing recording within a new song, creating a direct musical connection between the two works.

The release continues a pattern of music associated with places on the tour. Tesfaye has previously introduced songs tied to stops in Brazil and Japan. In Hong Kong, the location became both the title of the new track and part of its musical identity through Wong's recording.

The Malaysian dates now follow that combination of stadium performances and music releases. A Kuala Lumpur set list and any plans for a Malaysia inspired release have not been announced in the information available ahead of the shows.

The Scale of the Stadium Run

The After Hours Til Dawn Tour is reported to have surpassed 7.5 million ticket sales and US$1 billion in gross revenue, placing it as the highest grossing concert tour by a male solo artist. Those figures describe the tour across its many destinations, rather than the two Malaysian dates alone.

Gross revenue means the money generated before costs are deducted. A stadium production must pay for expenses such as venue use, transport, equipment and personnel, so ticket revenue and profit are different measures.

The National Stadium has a stated capacity of about 80,000, although concert attendance depends on the stage layout, production areas and seating configuration. For Kuala Lumpur, the practical challenge is moving a large audience through a sports complex that is also hosting other events.

Which Last Train Can Fans Actually Catch?

Rapid KL's later operating arrangements for November 4 and 5 provide extra time on selected services. At Bukit Jalil station on the Sri Petaling Line, the final boarding deadline is 12:30am for direct trains towards Putra Heights and Sentul Timur.

Passengers changing lines need to work backwards from their connecting train. A transfer is simply a change from one rail service to another, but the second service has its own closing time. Reaching the first train before 12:30am may therefore be too late for the rest of the journey.

The main departure deadlines from Bukit Jalil are:

  • 12:30am for direct Sri Petaling Line services towards Putra Heights or Sentul Timur.
  • 12:00am for passengers transferring to the Ampang Line at Chan Sow Lin.
  • 12:00am for passengers transferring to the Putrajaya Line at Sungai Besi.
  • 11:30pm for passengers connecting to the Kelana Jaya Line, KL Monorail or Kajang Line.

Fans who need the earliest connections have a deadline one hour before the final direct service. Stadium exit queues and the walk to the station must fit within that window, making the destination as important as the advertised station closing time.

Connection Times Across the Rail Network

Ampang Line passengers must board at Bukit Jalil by midnight to reach Chan Sow Lin for the final interchange service at 12:13am. Passengers using the Putrajaya Line also need to leave Bukit Jalil by midnight, changing at Sungai Besi for departures towards Kwasa Damansara at 12:15am or Putrajaya Sentral at 12:34am.

Kelana Jaya Line passengers should board at Bukit Jalil by 11:30pm and change at Masjid Jamek. The final connecting trains there leave towards Putra Heights at 12:03am and Gombak at 12:17am.

KL Monorail passengers face the same 11:30pm boarding deadline at Bukit Jalil. Their interchange is Hang Tuah, with final departures towards Titiwangsa at 12:08am and KL Sentral at 12:10am.

Kajang Line passengers have two changes to complete. They must board at Bukit Jalil before 11:30pm, switch to the Putrajaya Line at Sungai Besi by 11:45pm, then change again at Tun Razak Exchange. The final Kajang Line trains there depart towards Kwasa Damansara at 12:10am and Kajang at 12:13am.

Live Nation Malaysia's earlier guidance referred to standard rail hours unless the operator announced otherwise. Rapid KL's subsequent extension supplies the later arrangements for the two concert nights. Fans should check the PULSE app for current schedules and service updates before travelling.

Parking Away From the Stadium

Rapid KL is encouraging drivers to use rail parking facilities and complete their journey by train. There are 15 designated facilities along the Ampang and Sri Petaling corridors, including locations at Ampang, Pandan Jaya, Taman Perindustrian Puchong, Kinrara BK5, Sentul, Putra Heights and Sungai Besi.

Another 14 facilities serve the Putrajaya Line, with options including Metro Prima, Sri Damansara Timur, Cyberjaya Utara, Sungai Besi, UPM and Taman Naga Emas. Together, the two groups provide 29 possible rail parking locations across the stated corridors, spreading demand beyond Bukit Jalil.

Parking at official rail operated facilities costs RM4.30 to RM5.00 per entry under the stated arrangement. Drivers must use the same Touch 'n Go card for their parking entry and exit and their train fares. The card should have enough balance for the return journey.

The MyRapid Pulse app shows parking availability in real time. Fans travelling from the western Klang Valley are also encouraged to consider facilities around Kinrara, Puchong and Putra Heights. For those heading towards Puchong, Sunway, Subang Jaya or Shah Alam, the organiser suggests Alam Sutera station, four stops from Bukit Jalil, as an alternative point for arranging onward travel.

Where Cars and Booked Rides Can Go

Live Nation Malaysia's designated hub for rides booked through an app is Endah Parade, approximately a 15 minute walk from the stadium. Pickups and drop offs are restricted to that hub, rather than Jalan Merah Caga or Jalan Barat.

Drivers should expect congestion on both roads and nearby access routes. The organiser has specifically advised avoiding Jalan Merah Caga, while traffic restrictions may be introduced to manage the movement of vehicles and pedestrians around the complex.

Parking B, D, E and F at KL Sports City have limited spaces. Alternative parking is listed at MRANTI Park, approximately a 15 minute walk away, and Calvary Convention Centre, approximately a 30 minute walk away. Availability and access depend on the respective operators' arrangements.

Those walking times matter when comparing options. A space farther from the stadium adds time before entry and after the concert, while a booked ride still requires reaching the designated hub and waiting among other departing fans. Carpooling can reduce the number of vehicles approaching the venue.

Phased Exits Will Shape the Journey Home

The stadium will release fans in phases after the performances, with one way routes intended to keep people moving in the same direction. Concertgoers should follow directional signs and instructions from event personnel rather than trying to cross against the departing crowd.

Gate C ticket holders have a specific instruction: use the storage facility near Gate C. Keeping belongings close to the assigned exit helps avoid people moving back through the crowd to retrieve them elsewhere.

Long queues are expected at train stations, parking exits and the Endah Parade ride hub, particularly as audiences from other KL Sports City events leave the area. Fans should keep doorways and pathways clear, remain alert and allow extra time for the trip home.

The practical choice is between the rail connection a passenger needs, the time required to leave the stadium and any onward journey after the train. Checking those details before arrival gives fans a clearer plan for the end of both concert nights.
